I am getting back into the O gauge hobby again after being down for a couple of year. I need to know if I have any options other that MTH, Lionel, and Woodland scenics for houses and buildings? I am considering just going with Woodland scenics and adding a building every so often but it's hard for me to plan a new layout if I don't know what or how much space I have to reserve for structions. I would like to go with an Old West motiff but I have not seen any kits or prebuilt structures like these. I prefer prebuilt as I don't want the city to come in and condemn my hand made buildings. I have seen these in G scale but not O gauge. If anyone has information on these types of structers I would appreciate the help.

Have you considered Making your own with Cardstock?
There are websites devoted to these and they can be impressive as well as very economical.
Mine are mostly MTH but I will have a few oddities.
Also consider the OGR Ameritown Building kits? They are not that hard to assemble and paint and have that old time feel.
I have considered the Ameitown kits but no one here in So Cal carries them and by the time they nail me with shipping I can buy MTH buildings. If I could afford all my buildings at once it would be great bit I am a bit of a budget at the moment. I did check into the card stock buildings and they are just fine with me but my artistics skills are nonexistant. I will problem try to build the sample structure that I got from model builders and if it comes out decent I will buy the software. I used to have quite a few MTH and Lionel buildings but they just got too expensive and with only one train shop within 45 miles and the fact that they charge no less than 59.00 for any building is just too much.

RRaddict2....you can buy the Ameri-Towne kits from quite a few dealers via the web and some at a discount. If that doesn't work, you can buy them directly from us via our webstore...and there is a flat rate of $5.00 shipping for each order. Pretty cheap shipping I would say!!
Thanks,
Alan

Check out the offerings at Valley Model Trains listed above in the source list. There sell a number of lines of Western Style buildings.

Look at the Blue Bar at the top of the page, Click WEB STORE to get the OGR online sales section.
The Ameritown Kits are a button on that page.

What I like about the Ameritowne buildings is that they are smaller than the MTH buildings and IMHO look far better on average size layouts.

Look in the "Scenery Sourcelist" for several old tyme buildings, mainly of wood. Many available in On30.

I will checkout the scenery source list and I have investigated the card stock buildings. If anyone has a link that shows someone making them from start to finish I would appreciate it. These would be my first choice if assembly is easy enough. I have no artistic talent what so ever but I will give it a whirl if easy enough.

If you are looking for old west buildings try Wild West Models.
If you are interested in OGR Ameritowne kits (plus other kits) I sell at a 20% discount. I am located in AZ so the shipping should not be too bad. You can process the order up to shipping fee then compare to buying locally. I tis also my policy to charge only the actual shipping fee plus a buck for the box. I always refund unused fees.

Korber models are being offered again. For built-ups I recommend Crescent Locomotive Works. For kits Altoona Modelworks and of course the Ameritowne kits offered by our Forum hosts.

While MTH and Lionel buildings are good, without a bit of work on them (which can be quite fun) they look a little bit toy-ish out of the box. This may be the look you want if you are more into the toy-train than model-train layout. If not, look at the Ameritown buildings. Between the discounts you get from buying on the right sites and the fun of building them combined with their excellent look, they are great.
Bar Mills and others make more complicated kits that are fun, too.

I know it doesn't fit your old west motef but the ameri-town building are easy to build and from what I hear easy to kitbash to almost anything you could want to do. I built a few this past week just as they were intended to be built here is the photos of those builds it took me an afternoon to do each of them.
