Very sharp! I am very excited about what they have done......now, almost any contemporary diesel in a Fallen Flag livery is "prototypical" on my railroad!
Peter
Yes NS has done a great thing by doing this. It is definetly a treat to see these, the NKP,N&W and Southern units get my vote....
Love them !!
Scrappy
Beautiful!
When the rest of the program is complete, these engines would make a great subject for a coffee table book full of photographs, or a commemorative NS book with a little history to go along with the photos.
Can't wait for the Lionel Legacy models of some of these!
Andy
Dennis,
What, you couldn't talk them in to doing an Alaska ?
Brad
The 8100, the NKP Unit, is going back to Altoona for a minor fix. The cab numbers are not correct.
The NKP used the Railroad Roman font on the cab numbers, as seen in this great shot taken by our own Eliot "Scrapiron" Scher.
I'm not sure who that goofy engineer is.

The remaining ten heritage units, coming from EMD, out of Muncie, IN, will not be delivered until later in May through early July. They will be:
1) Savannah & Atlanta
2) NYC
3) Reading
4) Erie
5) Virginian
6) Wabash
7) CRR of NJ
8) Illinois Terminal
9) PC
10) DL&W
The PRR unit was in Camden NJ Weds I saw it from the Riverline ( light rail line )
Rich,
Is there any chance NS will have all of the heritage locos at Altoona at one time for the public to see? I know you told me on the phone that the 30th anniversary celebration is for employees only.
"I'm not sure who that goofy engineer is."
He musta got past security somehow.
He looks as though he's enjoying his moment in the spotlight.
Today NSOU announced another Heritage Locomotive...Monongahela RR
"And the hits just keep on coming!"

The signature says Larry Randolph but I think the guy in the window is an imposter (smirk).
John
Larry Randolph was a long-time member and past president of the Fort Wayne railroad Historical Society who passed away earlier that year. We carried Larry's name on the cab all year to honor him.
We may do the same this year for another member who was recently called home to be with the Lord.

So what color were the Monogahela Railway locomotives? From Andy's drawing the main color looks green, but in the real engine photos it looks more like a shade of gray.
Just curious.
Larry
maybe they can send the N&W unit back and have it shot in the correct shade of blue while they are at it.
Larry:
If I were to guess, the scheme will be the GREY/WHITE paint scheme used in early 1990's on the MON's new GE B-23-7 diesels.
Previously, other than the second hand P&LE GP-7s, the MON used a BLACK paint scheme on their new EMD GP-38s. A Bicentennial GP-38 was also rostered.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that photo lineup, Dennis! Absolutely stunning units! I still hope they do a calendar of those beauties at some point because that's one I would love to have (even though I don't model NS). I am, however, a Southern Rwy fan so I imagine that puts me in the "family."
Allan... At 20 NSOU Heritage Diesels (and counting) it may need to be a 2 year calendar.

With Lionel and MTH making each one I could go broke in retirement, I am an NS fan by my heart is still in Alaska.
Yes a calender would be very nice, I guess we will have to wait and see what transpires.
Are they doing a Penn Central?

We need to get CSX to paint up some heritage units also, C&O, B&O,(Blue/Gray) Seaboard, Western Maryland then we have some more winners and the train importers will make a bundle from me. I hope CSX does a heritage series, B&O blue/gray, C&O, and I believe they owned 50% of the Conrail, maybe they can do a Pennsy green unit.
Are they doing a Penn Central?
Yes Dave they are. It will be a SD70ACe, should be very sharp.
Dave
Thanks NS for making railfanning more interesting again.Kind of like the just-merged days of Conrail and Chessie.

I like the N&W and the Lehigh Valley schemes the best. I think the (Wabash) blue colour looks great on the N&W loco.

Same here!
Still, NS deserves a ton of kudos for taking this initiative. ALL of the paint schemes are gorgeous, and I'm sure NS put a whole lot of $ into this splendid effort. No nitpicking from me on any of their livery choices.
The original Norfolk and Southern (red and yellow) unit gets my vote for good looks.
MTH shows it as an EMD model in their catalog. Wonder if they will make the correction to G.E. like the prototype?

Ray,
I made an inquiry to MTH a week or so ago and the answer was, it will be done in the GE prototype.

I just checked Andy's drawings again and now the MON drawing is depicted in gray not a shade of green.
Larry
Those look great. BNSF and CSX, are you listening?!? If they expand the heritage program(s), I might actually be able to leave the Isle of Denial for a while.
The Lehigh Valley unit out on the road:

I absolutely can NOT wait for the MRY/MGA units to be completed!!!!! The drawing looks beautiful, I am saving up money to purchase any Lionel/MTH rendition, which I hope to god is sooner than later! I will sell my house if I must to get my grubby paws on one. I just wish they had chosen an SD70ACe instead of the ES44AC.. more of an EMD fan than GE..... no biggy tho.
