you beat me to the punch!! i was getting ready to post this good news! i knew about this program about 1 1/2 years ago. the ceo of norfolk-southern came in the hobby shop that i buy trains from and purchased mth and lionel heritage paint schemes. at the time the ceo said that they were "considering" painting the heritage schemes on the locomotives. one thing that i am GLAD of is NS are going to paint their engines in the original paint schemes of their former railroads!!!( NS plans to recreate the paint schemes as accurately as possible...taken from the TRAINS news wire). NO FANTASY PAINT SCHEMES!!!!!.......rogerw.

I can hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth of those not waiting to see what HS's Heritage would look like.

Mr. Wick Moorman has been a infrequent local visitor here.  When he is at the shop two questions have always come up.  Those are what about a steam program and an heritage set.  His comments were always very open on both subjects.

As to a heritage set he was always very much in favor of it.  But said many things had to be worked out.  As an example NS did NOT own the legal rights to the PRR logo.  They would have to fine out where the ownership was and if a deal could be struck.  As to the design he said they are looking at ideas of how to come up with them.  He mentioned about getting employee involvement and submission of design ideas. He even stated that along with the MTH DAP set of the F-units purchased locally, they had a Lionel PRR/NS heritage diesel at the GO.  He made a point in saying that this was NOT to copy the design scheme but to keep the heritage concept at the forefront of management's minds. Look like it is happening!

I had wondered if a heritage set was coming after Larry Neal's post in January that NS 4610 was now repainted NS Black from the traditional Southern green/white opening a clear slot for a green/white heritage unit.

I will also surmise that most if not all heritage units will reflect non-black color schemes keeping them different from standard NS livery.

Good Day Matt,

The Advance Unit has been working strategically for over 2 years behind the lines. I hope some of my proposed color schemes are selected.

OMG YIPPEE
A New York Central SD70ACe or ES44AC

Penn Central  I LOVE IT !!

The New York Central rides again !!!!!!

The locomotives will be 10 SD70ACes on order from EMD that are being constructed at its Muncie, Ind., plant, and eight ES44ACs from an upcoming order for 25 units from GE. NS plans to recreate the paint schemes as accurately as possible. By contrast, UP used the old railroads’ logos and colors, but created new interpretations on the old liveries. "

Ben, that ES44 is awesome and was glad to have done that one for you. You are way ahead of the game here!!

I'm glad NS will be creating these based on the original versions of the paint schemes. Nothing against anyone, but those Lionel heritage paint schemes were flat out awful. UP did a fantastic job with theirs. This should be very cool.

Here is the latest breakdown of units -

SD70ACe : Savannah & Atlanta , Pittsburgh & West Virginia , Penn Central , Reading , Erie , Erie Lackawanna , Virginian , New Haven or 1960`s Norfolk Southern , New York Central , Wabash.

ES44AC : Conrail , N&W , Pennsy , Lehigh Valley , Nickle Plate Road , Southern Green : E8 style , Tennessee Alabama & Georgia , Central of Georgia.

Good Day,

I'll check on my old e-mails that I sent NS back in 2010.  I also sent NS hard copies to their corp. office.   My proposed NS Heritage color schemes were: Wabash, N&W, Lehigh Valley, Conrail, CofG, and Nickel Plate Road. I am very curious if NS selected any of my color schemes.

Regards,

Swafford
