Thank from here too Skip!

I was born in Brooklyn (US Navy Hospital) a week after 'D-Day' but have only been back to the city once and that was during the the big transportation strike about 6 years ago. Spent a week in New Rochelle at Christmas as we couldn't get downtown. Hopefully, we can get back up sometime...

Skip, great post.  Every year, Dotty and I would jump on the Acela in my town and go to the city.  We love New York City.  Great place to walk around.  I missed last year with my operation but will be there this year.  I hope to be able to hook up with Locolawyer and Gerry Morlitz to buy them lunch.  As everyone knows, they're  both New York City Lawyers.  I have told Mike to make a building titled Law Offices of Gurcan, Morlitz and Rawlings.

The only thing that would spoil the day would be running into Ted Bertiger wearing his Jets shirt.  Ted is a great guy but he has that one fault.

I apologize for the lack of a narrative, but a picture is worth a thousand words. I would like to add that the BEST way to go into NYC is by train. Driving in NYC is no fun normally, but at this time of the year it's down right unenjoyable.Whether coming from the north into Grand Central Terminal, or from the south and west into Penn Station, you'll be right in the middle of the walking tour.

I usually come into Penn Station at 33rd St, so, I prefer to start at Macy's and then make my way over 1 block to 5th Avenue and head north. Stops at Grand Central and Bryant Park are on 42nd St., right off of 5th Ave.  Rockefeller Center is right off of 5th at 50th St. 5th Avenue itself, especially between 50th and 59th Street is quite an amazing holiday experience.

If you come into Grand Central, start there and head across 42nd St to Bryant Park, down to Macy's or back up 5th Avenue.

Plan to wait on a considerable line for Macy's Santa Land, but know that the line moves remarkably well and it is well worth the wait. Santa Land is open from Thanksgiving, when Santa arrives in the Thanksgiving Day Parade, until Christmas Eve only!

Take your time! Soak it all in. Night time is spectacular with all the lights. There are plenty of police, who I have usually found to be in "the spirit," and who will be happy to direct you. Have fun!!!

As usual, trains derailed and NOT working... only the building lights lit. too bad as hundreds of people walking by dissapointed in the non- working display.

Oh BTW, If you walking up and down 5th ave between FAO [59th st] and Rockerfeller ctr [51st st], you might want to check out the Tiffany & co Windows this year.... they look o scale-except for the street lights.

At FAO there is a somewhat hidden red button to press to start the trains. Many if not most people miss it. They run for a minute or so.  Two years ago the same Display was on the main floor redone in a winter theme by a forum member. Now it is always half in and half out of whatever season it is supposed to represent. Definitly due a refresh.
