O-Line Reproductions: A First Look...

Received a Fed-Ex email alert this afternoon that MTH has shipped the Cancer Awareness ES44 w/caboose.  I should have mine by Wednesday evening.  Curious to see how they look with the OLR boxcars.  If I really like what I see, I may order a few of the OLR Cancer Cure hoppers too!!!

The ladders and roof walk appear to be separately applied , are they?  Wouldn't that indicate they were the later K-Line boxcars and not the 6464 look a likes K-Line originally came out with?

Yes, Jerry.  I believe they are.  Those ladders and grab bars are definitely not molded in.   Very nice touch for this unbelievable price-point.

The only other "RMT" style cars I have are ore cars, and they too have nice amounts of detail.

I purchased one of the Altoona Brewing Company "Curve" Premium Beer covered hoppers from Pat's as well and I must say that I am equally satisfied!  It is well worth the asking price in today's economy.

Nothing new here, these are just RMT products.  Nice 027 cars for the money.   Too bad there wasn't more interest in these cars when RMT was selling them.

I would guess there is a lot more demand for $22 box cars then there is for ones listed at what? $89.99?

There was tons of interest!  But nobody can afford to blow their train budget all at once.  A manufacturer has to offer products every year over time.

RMT seemed to be a feast and then famine manufacturer.

I believe there was an issue with aristo-craft NOT RMT!!

RMT is doing just fine.

you don't pay the bill a manufacture will not ship product.

Wonder if someone else will step into the low end market, Marx style...

Directs the audience towards Menards.  Not a full line of product at this point, but still a nice, ever growing, selection at prices the rest of us can afford.  

I have several RMT items and I never payed $89.99 for any of them.  That includes Beeps, Buddys, boxcars, and hoppers.  I think the last cars I bought was a pair of B&M hoppers for less than $50.  I can't believe anyone payed list price for RMT trains.

Thanks for the post. I was not aware of this offering. Since my sister was operated on two months ago (and recovering well), I thought this might be interesting for her to see when the family gets together for the Christmas at my families home.

I did see the MTH offering, but as much as I would like to purchase it, it is not financially in my reach at this time.

I've been hunting for a set of 027 passenger cars in a "local" roadname of B&O, C&O, Western Maryland or Chessie lately. While I was tempted by the MTH Chessie Rugged Rails 027 set of 4 cars, I really didn't want more than two or three cars for my small elevated loop.

I saw Nassau had the B&O 2 pack for $70. They only had one left and it went to me. Just as I was walking out to head to the office, the mail man showed up with the set. I quickly pulled one out. The other is still in the box. They appear to be a bit larger than the Lionel 027 streamlined cars. They have full interiors, including window shades in various heights. These are exactly what I was looking for. Even better, one is named for the town I live in (Potomac) although I'm sure it refers to the Potoamc River, just a few short miles from my home.

I didn't get them on the track yet but like I said - these are exactly what I was looking for. The price was right and they appear to be very nice cars. Only downside - no thumbtack couplers and it appears you can't open the couplers without an automated track section.  Below is a quick iPhone photo. BTW, the packaging and ad called these "Streamlined Coach Cars" so that is what I thought I was getting...turns out one (below) is an observation car and the other is a dome car.

Now here's a warning label I don't recall seeing on any other toy train product boxes from other importers -- not even RMT.    Hhhhmmmmm.....

 

 

And now the product itself:  the boxcar outside of wrappings... very nice detail... even more rivets than Lionel's MPC-era boxcars...

 

 

And for those curious about the size of these O-Line Reproduction products, they're a perfect match-up for traditional Lionel 6464-class boxcars as seen below:

 

 

Very pleased with the quality and detail of the cars here -- especially for the price.  You just can't go wrong... EXCELLENT price/performance, and it really does make us wonder WHY we're paying what we do for much of the overpriced stuff out there today.

Doesn't everything cause cancer or reproductive harm in California these days? (No offense to anyon e living there.)

Gotta say, I'm really impressed with these cars. Very good quality. Very nice looking. Well worth the $$! While I'll probably pack them up to take to a club event this weekend, I had to take them out and put them on the track to see them lit up. I'll have to get some butts in the seats next!

One thing - I see they come with separately installed rubber diaphragms but I can't get the **** things in the openings. Anyone successful at this? Any tricks on doing it?

Folks, as promised here are a couple of quick iPhone pics of the OLR cancer awareness box car along with the newly arrived MTH cancer cure ES44 and matching caboose.  The MTH locomotive and caboose have a bit more of a fuchsia/magenta hue in their paint scheme.  But the pink color of the OLR boxcar complements the pink in the ribbon graphics of the MTH locomotive and caboose quite nicely. 

Now I need to order a string of the OLR cancer awareness hoppers to go along with the boxcars!   This will make for an eye-catching train -- especially with the flashing charger lights on the ES44 locomotive. 

Nice job, MTH.  The silver trucks on the loco and caboose are a nice touch!  Thank you for producing this locomotive/caboose set.  I unexpectedly encountered a first-hand bout with this disease during the Summer.  The doctors at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia removed a very small mass and surrounding tissue from my leg to obtain clear margins back in July.  I couldn't help but think how coincidental it was that this locomotive/caboose literally arrived in my hands yesterday, just after I returned back from my first post-surgical MRI and chest X-ray earlier in the day at Fox Chase (which I'll need to do every 3 to 4 months for a couple of years).  So this train will always hold a very special meaning for me -- especially with the 2015 road number as a date-stamp.

Henry, please pass along my best wishes to your sister for a promising recovery.  I too found myself on this journey earlier this year (see my above post) and am hoping for the best going forward.  I've got LOTS to do here yet in this life!!!

I will pass that on to my sister!  And, I wish my best for you as well.  When I see different posts here regarding a persons health, I add them to my Prayers.

I think you will have a great looking train once you have all the rolling stock for it!

The California on box warning is due to use of leaded solder in the wiring.

Also sometimes lead is also in the paint used, best to cover all options.

California has way too many lawyers.

A couple of years ago RMT passenger cars (like the B&O cars above), nice #6520-style flats w/tanks, etc. were offered at ridiculously low prices. I got a set (4) of Texas Special passenger cars for well under a hundred bucks and nice flats w/tanks and a figure each for about fifteen bucks each. They are well-made and durable. Fitting the rubber diaphragms at the vestibule ends is difficult but can be inserted. "Dig in" one side and carefully work in from the edges and you can get them to fit within the space. Time is necessary. They don't just pop in without some strategy and dexterity, but anyone with a little patience can do 'em...

Yes, pricing vs value creates demand! Most of these cars are not my choice in trains...although, I'm not a scale guy. I'm not attracted to their product line

So, it it doesn't matter if they are 5 or 50.

The matching hopper cars I ordered from Patrick's Trains over the weekend arrived this afternoon, and I placed one on the display shelf for now.  Altogether I'll have 8 boxcars and 6 covered hoppers in this train.
