I'd be more worried if Evergreen and Plastruct go broke then I would be crying, I went out today and bought a large box of the stuff just in case .

So if your worried about Rolling stock and locos buy up large, mortgage the house, on the other hand if you believe everything written here you should give it away and collect Stamps preferably with a Railway theme.

I'm going back to the workbench and play with my clowns...I, I, I, mean.... TRAINS!!

I have similar concerns about the sources of scale lumber, but then I look in my shop and figure I have a few decades before that worry becomes anything close to reality

Just remember:

I am not worried at all about O Scale manufacturers production.  There are enough un-started O scale projects in my collection that I really do not care what else is ever manufactured for O Scale.  I find the stuff I am interested in purchasing (mostly parts)  at O Scale meets like Strasburg, Cleveland and Chicago.  Add to that, the continuous conversion and repair work that comes through my shop and I know I will never get to all of it.

Sorry, modern railroading holds no interest to me but I guess if that is your interest there may be some things that could be produced that would be of use to you.  After the GP-9 and Alco Road Switcher I kind of fuzz out.

My question is has Sunset ever failed to correct their errors? You cannot fairly compare a $600 plastic loco with a $2000 or $3000 brass piece. As a former dealer I can tell you they ALL have errors in their work. I, for one, wish I hadn't been widowed last summer as there are items I would love to buy but until the estate is settled I will miss Sunsets E units, SD7/9s SD40-2s, etc. If you don't like his products, fine, but do not run him down.

Dick

If he has a specific reason for not liking the products then why shouldn't he "run them down"...

Sunset definitely is not the Kato of O Scale.  I have several Sunset pieces and every one of them has problems.  As others have pointed out here on the Forum like misplaced details on whole production runs, road specific inaccurate details, and complete botched locomotive runs like the F7 with windows glued on the outside, color problems, etc.  I will not order any more Sunset locomotives as every one of mine has arrived with faults.  $700 plus is too much to pay for continual poor quality control.  I may change my mind once problems become a minimal occurrence. Comparing Sunset to Kato, is an insult to Kato.  Just my opinion.

George,

Just out of curiosity, could you post what Sunset products you own and what the specific defect was?  As one of Scott's consultants we always try to make it better.  Sunset is a small company and we just want to continue to make the product better and better.  I'd appreciate your input.

This page I am with Joe.  I too have projects that will outlast me, and all I need is more paint, thinner, glue, and solder.  I think I might have enough raw brass to make it to 90.

And once we pass the SD-9, my interest drops to pretty much zero.  Give me outside braced box cars and steam power, with cabeese.  And no plastic.  Well, I need some for insulation, but with battery power coming, that too may pass.

Hey why not stop complaining and we show support for Sunset 3rd Rail SD 40's, the only manufacturer willing to offer prototypically detailed and ready to run plastic models. I'm sure if modern stuff proves feasible they will offer more and more modern engines. But without the numbers we really can't complain!

Sunset is fast proving to be the Kato of O scale.   Let's hope the sales of modern equipment support them.

It would be nice to see Kadee HO quality RTR freight cars in O scale.

On the kit front, the (new) GPM GS gondola kit is wonderful and proves that O scale can strut it's stuff right up front when it comes to "state of the art' modeling.

Said it before and will say it again - until the fountain of youth is invented, Harley will sell big slow motorcycles to old geezers and modelers will step up to the heft and realism of O scale.

+1 and well said George. The F-7's had bigger problems than the cab vent windows.
