I did attend the show for the first time on Saturday, which learning from the forum was apparently a slow day. I'm still in the workforce, so taking what limited PTO that I have to attend the train show wouldn't have gone over well with the family. From my standpoint, I was glad it wasn't crowded because I discovered I had a lot of ground to cover having arrived there shortly before 9 AM. I told my wife I had one word to describe York. . . "overwhelming." Unlike the observations from the seasoned York veterans, I didn't have issues with the security guards or badges. While I did overhear some of the vendors grumbling about the lack of foot traffic and some were packing up before noon, I had a great time as a York newbie. I did spread some green as well finding some good deals (particularly getting closer to noon). Contrary to the concerns with cell phone use, I didn't see many people glued to their cellphones. I did get a chuckle out of the announcer saying "For your safety, please follow the arrows." I was expecting to hear ". . . or you will be shot on sight." I guessed that would have been more relevant the other two days. I do suggest that they consider hiring a professional to take some pictures, just so people will have just an indication just how big the York Train Show really is. While I hope to attend in the Fall, we'll have to see what my PTO balance is like, what the kids sports schedules are like, etc. In the meantime, I will be continuing to pay those social security taxes so many of the retired TCAers can enjoy their retirements and continue buying trains.

Glad you had a good time. You mentioned that few were on cell phones. I also did not see many using them on the other 2 days. However, how many (besides OGR Forum members) KNEW they could use them? October will give a better idea of any cell phone impact on traffic flow, etc.

And I thank you. I think "overwhelming" is a good choice of words.

Keep in mind that some of us who are collecting Social Security are still working full time AND still paying Social Security taxes.

The announcement that cell phones are now allowed was made over the P.A. system.

So it's safe to assume that everyone had one in the car? I guess that is probably the case.

If I had to rely on my social security payments, I would not be buying any trains.
It just about covers my real estate tax here in New Jersey.
