I just wondered, with many of us forumites also attendees of York, if jackets (not sweatshirts....I do not wear those) with

OGR or, specifically, OGR Forum logos exist or should exist and be offered by OGR.  Then we might spot one another as we

tramp from building to building to building to........

We've actually been through this twice since I have been here (2002).  Before the current staff took over OGR, we had custom gray OGR Forum polos with our forum names made to order by OGR.  Then, several years after that OGR did a nice run of black polo OGR Forum shirts (without the names).  We had them embroidered with our forum names on our own (many of us used a lady at York who does custom embroidery).

Could be time for some new shirts?  BigRail

I like the OGR hat concept.

It would be easier to spot in the hall and move over to meet someone ( you knew or didnt know).

It would need to be a nice smooth color and not some gaudy color.  (Sorry but the orange and blue colors are great on lionel boxes but on clothing you stick out everywhere you go, IMHO).

A hat would probably be much cheaper and easier to get the right size.

You could also wear to other train shows and maybe entice some questions about its origin, especially if the hat was really attractive and fetching.

Might be people ask where you got the hat, which would open up a conversation to get them to join OGR.

If it were hats it would be much easier for OGR to bring them to York and sell them to us.  Much lighter than clothing and one size fits all.

Hmm...Very Interesting how these threads come up every few months. The subject matter has been surfacing for many years.

Three years ago we even had a forum member in the business offer his services. He even offered to do the set-up work "no charge".

The forum management has stone-walled the idea repeatedly with the now famous phrase, "It's Not Going To Happen!".

Oh Well, It's worth another try.

Once you get into customizing,  the effort needed can become not worth the time and cost.  I personally wouldn't do anything with forum "Handles" on it.  Generic OGR gear would be the easiest for the OGR staff.  Let the consumer personalize it.

But in reality, OGR main focus is the magazine and associated products so who knows if OGR Gear is even something they want to venture into.   But a ball cap, polo shirt, and t shirt would be an easy start as long as it's kept generic OGR branded.

An OGR Forum member who didn't mind handling the grief could do this for all who wanted one.  The "Embroidme" franchises have all the equipment needed to embroider the OGR logo on a shirt or hat and also ones name if wanted. That's where I took my OGR black polo shirt to have the name put on it.  They sell the shirts and hats to put the logos on too.

Gents....as others have said, this topic comes up often.  We have discussed a variety of options as far as shirts goes and as MartyE said above, the time and effort based on the small staff we have makes it a challenge.  Our current product line has been expanding slowly over the years and sales have been keeping the team at OGR Headquarters very busy!  One thing that has been suggested is to have an outside vendor offer the shirts that could be ordered via the OGR webstore with the vendor shipping the orders.  On another note, in all of the discussions among the OGR staff, I don't think the idea of offering hats has come up!  One suggestion that was made some time ago was the idea of an arm band like many sports teams and professional organizations wear and it was pointed out that it could easily be put on and taken off...?

During the York meets I have seen shirts, hats, and meet badges with the OGR name on them...some of which may have been custom made by the individuals.

I am sure further discussions will take place at OGR about this as there does seem to be a lot of interest!!

Thanks,

Alan

A bit of a catch-22...

Truly unbelievable

HW, whatever has been posted over there hardly qualifies as "up in arms."  Heck, a good percentage of your posts here have been far harsher in tone than anything posted in that thread.

This idea has come up many times before after York. Whether another forum wants to take credit for the idea or what have you so be it. I saw a few folks from it with the jackets and thought they were pretty nice.

That being said whether jackets or what have you regardless only the OGR guys can decide if they want to expand the product line.

Not sure why folks here should be the least bit concerned about what others do/say on other forums. Let them spend their time worrying/fretting/stewing/spouting off/etc. about what hobbyists here do and say, and just take it as a big compliment to, and endorsement of, the overwhelming popularity of this forum. Good to know that they are "talking" about us.

It takes a special kind of person to wear this! Look in their eyes!
