OK, You Say "No More Engines". But What Engine Would You Just Have To Buy if Released.

Don, I'm in the same boat as you BUT I'm a sucker for 10-drivered Pennsy power so I'd open my wallet for one of these:

PRR class N2sa 2-10-2.  It's a USRA heavy 2-10-2 that Pennsy modified by moving the headlight and generator to "standard" positions and adding a Belpaire firebox.

A correct CB&Q 2-10-2. Thus, the model would have to be produced by Sunset/3rd Rail.

There are a couple of steam engines I would like to have. 

From Southern Pacific:

4-10-2 3 cylinder Alco

4-8-2 MT-4/5

Both of these engines have been done by Sunset/3rd rail but they don't come up for sail often.

From Union Pacific:

4-10-2 3 cylinder Alco

CNJ Baldwin double cab locomotive.  Even a representation given the original would be far too long to fit on my layout.

It's a long shot, but the prr e3b, one of the few 4 4 4 truck arrangement engines in the US would be cool. 

This wouldn't be bad either, the five providence and worcester mlw built m420Rs with the correct trucks. These were in at least 3 p and w paint schemes before going to the Iowa interstate and the southern railroad of New Jersey.

Hey Scale Rail, that Milwaukee Quill would be awesome. However, for me the must have engine would be a 2-6-6-2 Mallet, Milwaukee of course. I'd probably have to sell one of my kidneys to pay for it though.

When Sunset announced the 4-10-2 models the only one to get enough orders was the SP version.  The UP version did not have enough reservations and wasn't produced.

The UP 4-10-2, in both 3 & 2 cylinder are on my list of models to scratch build.  Stay tuned....

I must be "lucky", l don't have too many engines, but few, for few have been made l want.  An MTH Russian decapod substitutes for the Great Western/Strasburg one, most wanted, then, too, the Little River 2-4-4-2, , then any small two truck Heisler....Sorry.. same old broken record.

That'll pretty much happen when Lionel releases this during the Christmas season.

Though I haven't reached the "never" place as far locomotives go, I have arrived at the "I just can't see buying another loco." That was until Atlas announced a VO1000 in NC&StL. If they follow through, after purchasing the VO1000, I will reset back to the "I just can't see buying another locomotive."

Same here.  But two thousand bucks is way, way beyond the reach of my wallet.  Maybe if someone else could make one at a lower price point...  I can dream, can't I?

For me, I'd just like to see a RDG I-10 2-8-0.

First of all I would never say "no more engines". Second, I have no specific "love" for a particular engine like most of you do. I'm kind of like a baseball umpire, I calls em like I sees em. I think in terms of an overall locomotive fleet where no single piece is more important than any other. Mine is a cast of players, and everyone has their role.

As I get more into operations, I may find that one road needs more motive power. If that is the case, I'll get some, from whatever is available at the time. Engines are really just the means by which I pull trains.

Price certainly is a barrier. A Lionel Steam engine with Legacy under $500 would be a great idea. My MOPAC GP-35 is lonely.

Wait, I said no more engines?  I'm afraid you miss understood.  Maybe I said no more engines this year...

Anyway, I like "stuff still running".  844 is on the list, as will be the 4014.  The 765 is on the list and so on.  But what I don't see are the small excursion rail roads being modeled.  I have the New Hope and Ivy Land about 4 miles from me and the Black River and Western a bit farther in the other direction.  They both run different Consolidation Class steam engines but they are not the what is typically modeled by Lionel or MTH.  A survivors theme would be great!

There is only one more engine of current products that I would buy, a 3rd Rail PRR Q1 (unskirted).  I would like 3rd Rail to produce it again so I can get one.

Another engine I would buy if Lionel made it again would be a Legacy version of their scale PRR T1.

That is it.

I missed out on the Weaver Milwaukee 2-8-0. I'd spring for a Legacy version.

Lionmaster Pennsy T1 4-4-4-4.

The Coney Island car could be bashed from the MTH Rail King Birney.

Any CP steamer . . . big or small!
