Hi to all. New on here and just purchased an old Pittman 501 trolley kit on e-bay. Looks to be complete with metal castings and lots of brass parts. Seems to have everything from the trolley poles down to the floor, but no floor? This is the first trolley i am attempting, and starting to paint the parts like an old Chicago Surface Lines car from the 20s. I lived behind the Elston ave. car barns as a kid and rode them many times, including the line that went under the Chicago river on Washington St. I'm running into questions already. What material is usually used for the floor in these kits and should it mount inside or outside of the side wall flanges?. What trucks would be correct for this model and who supplies them? Not sure if i'm going to power this model yet but would really like to on a short display type of layout.(no room). I'm guessing this kit is from the 50s?Does another company still manufacture them?

Thanks much in advance.

Geo.

You can make the floor out of bass wood. That is the easiest way to do it. Q Car Company makes the trucks, motors and all other details including interiors. You need to decide if you will be running off overhead wire or 2 rail with insulated wheels. If you will be running 3 rail then everything changes. Go to contactqcarcompany.com. Check his site for much information. Good luck with your project

The basswood sounds like the thing to use, around 1/8" i guess? Since the side plates with windows on this kit have bottom flanges on them, then the floor has to be put in from the top down while the roof is off? Sound right? Needs to have holes in the floor to put screws up through to attach the roof? Anyone out there that has built one of these Pittman kits? Anyway, thanks for any help.

I have two Minitoy trolleys, which I am told were Pittman trolleys that were assembled and painted by Minitoy. Both of them have sheet metal floors.  I think I found your Ebay lot, the parts look to be the same as what I have.

Last I knew, Bowser was still making these trolleys. When I contacted Bowser, they told me all the parts would fit my trolleys. Perhaps you can get a frame from them.
