I have a carpet central Christmas layout and I use Johnson's Rubber road bed for my Standard gauge Tubular track.  Some of the track still has a tendency to work its way loose so I'm looking at purchasing some track clips to hold some of the errant pieces together.  However, the old pre-war track clips look as if they might not fit into the Rubber roadbed because they appear to large.  So, Is it possible to use the old pre-war  O Gauge tubular track clips on Standard Gauge Tubular track?  For that matter can the modern issues of this product be used on Standard Gauge tubular track?   Any help will be appreciated.

The O gauge clips are just shorter than the standard gauge clips, modern clips are identical.
They all work with any compatible vintage of track.
I do not know if the roadbed complicates the issue.

Thanks for your response but your answer has confused me.  You state that they all work with any compatible vintage of track.  Does that mean O Gauge clips for only O Gauge tubular and only Standard clips for Standard Tubular?  Or does it mean that O Gauge clips can also be used for Standard tubular even though they are smaller?  If you can clarify I will appreciate it.

Both styles work with any compatible vintage of track. They are actually the same product design, just with different lengths. Thus, O clips work on STD and STD work on O. Naturally, if O is used on STD, the clip is around an inch too short and if the STD version is used on O it is about an inch too long. The overall function of the clip is not affected.

By "compatible vintage" I am indicating that the tie spacing and tie bends must generally match the Lionel-style spacing and bends for the clip to fit correctly (since they slide over the tie ends of adjacent tracks).

I have attached pictures showing an O clip, its use on STD and the tie spacing/ bend requirement with and without the clip in situ. Notice how the clip slides over the end bend as well as the back of the tie.

The STD clip has four internal "tabs" (2 each direction), whereas the O clip only as three (as pictured). Modern clips for tubular O are essentially identical.

I do not know if the roadbed complicates the issue.
