I picked up several Weaver engines at a train meet last week and of the 3, 1 is a UP ABA F series (all powered) and the other 2 are RS-3 units. Only one runs well and it has 2 center rollers on each truck and has no problem. The other RS-3 and the ABA set single end-of-truck center rollers really arc badly on the center roller and the center rollers do get really hot. All of the engines but one came in their original red boxes. The ABA set B unit has all the body mount screws stripped so that is another task but the rest of them look good cosmetically. All of the engines have been lubed and check so now I have been told that the engines that are arcing from the center roller is due to the design and low pressure of the springs for the center rollers causing the arc. My tracks are clean and run everything else fine (conventional, TMCC, Legacy, DCS). So what works as a retrofit to cure the arcing and overheating of the singe center rollers on these older Weaver engines? All suggestions are appreciated and thank you.
