I would pass on any transformer that's actually missing a power cord, especially a 1033 since it's so easy to get one that works on eBay or at a train meet. First step in checking out a transformer (one with a cord, that is) is to plug it in and if you hear it hum and there's no smoke or bad smell, so far so good. Next step is to check the output with a voltmeter (with the transformer not connected to the track) to make sure it's putting out the correct power to the track from all the terminal posts. If at any point in the voltage check the transformer's circuit breaker trips, that indicates a problem somewhere in the unit. As for your accessories, they are all good units when they work right. The 397 makes an annoying clacking sound when it's running and tends to throw coal in other directions besides into the car you're loading, but the action is fun to watch. If the accessories didn't come with instructions there are books available that will show you how to hook up all the postwar stuff.
