This is probably basic but I was running my PRR M1 (sunset?) w/ tmcc and somehow it now only chuffs once per rev. I was playing with the aux buttons because I couldn't remember what they do. I may have hit something to cause this?

I thought I would ask before I go inside. It does sound funny or also it just may need lube?

First question is what electronics does it have. TAS EOB has keystrokes to change the chuffs/rev. Some 3rd rail engines have EOB but use microswitches on the driver axle to generate chuff. Some of these have a switch under the cab to switch from 2 to 4 chuffs. Then some use hall sensors and magnets on tender axles.

Given yours went to one chuff, it may be an EOB adjustment that changed.

Just got home Pete, thank you. I will check which one it has inside. It's an older engine that I got used. I only run it at Christmas. So I don't remember much about it. Now that I'm putting in a 3 rail loop, I hooked up TMCC and tried to run it. It happened right after I was playing with the Aux buttons so I'm pretty sure it was from a mistake. Maybe it's this one?

 Chuff n Puff synchronized smoke

· Limited production (less than 100 3 Rail Models) ensures future value

· Hand-made art at die cast prices

· Lionel TMCC and Mountain Railsounds with Coil Coupler

· 054 or larger radius 3 rail track

It looks just like Norm's: I really don't know what's inside?

Joe, before you pul it apart try this from the EOB manual.

"Selecting the Chuff Rate EOB allows you to change the chuff rate of the locomotive, from 1, 2 or 4 chuffs per revolution while the locomotive is either stopped or running. The commands for this are as follows; ENG + ## + AUX1 + AUX1 + 5 (Each time 5 is pressed you will hear a series of whistles or horns. 1 blast for 1 chuff per rev. 2 blasts for 2 chuffs per rev. 4 blasts for 4 chuffs per rev. Pressing the sequence over and over again will simply result in the blasts repeating themselves; 1, 2, 4, 1, 2, 4, 1, 2, 4 and so on. We recommend that diesels be set to 4 chuffs per revolution (a total of 4 horn blasts). This is accomplished by pressing the AUX1 + AUX1 + 5 command three times, or until you hear 4 horn blasts."

I don't think if your chuff is generated by micro switches that you can get one chuff. Its usually a choice of 2 or 4. To get only one the switch would have to be in the two chuff position and a cam would have had to shift.

WOW Pete! Thank you.

At first it didn't work. I almost gave up. I finally found that it worked when the engine was running slowly forward. I returned the engine to 2 chuffs. For fun, I also switched to 4 chuffs. I did not know it could do that. I will leave it at four for now and see how it sounds.

I bet I had pushed the aux and 5 trying to get some different sounds. I must have double pressed the aux 1.

Joe,

I'm glad to see it is running well for you.  I've always liked the TAS EOB cruise upgrade for my TMCC engines, especially since it gave me cruise and 4-chuffs/rev with one mod unlike ERR's board.  Many people did not like EOB because of the built-in slow acceleration that could not be sped up.  Since I don't like jack rabbit starts, this never bothered me.  Enjoy.
