Hello all,
I ordered parts on the lionel support site when it was on sale on 9/24. The order went through, took my money and says "pending fufillment". It has been 3 weeks. I wanted to reach out here to ask if this is normal, as in maybe a surge or orders before me over the weekend due to the sale- still getting picked, or should I call lionel and ask for an update?

I ordered 3 orders that weekend (22, 23, and 24th). 1 arrived the 29th, the second order arrived today, the third order is pending shipping.
My order arrived within 5 days or so, but it was a small order.
There are no parts in bins.
They make extra train cars and dissect them for parts.

Who was it that you talked to at Lionel that gave you the details of this process?
A while back, we heard right here on this forum, that Lionel mentioned recently that it has a million parts in stock. (If you need me to find the exact statement I'll do so. Search will have to be my friend.)
Over their 123 year history there's no way they could have created such a stockpile by taking apart "extra" production units.
Not trying to be a problem. Just looking for the source, actually for both statements.

Not to burst your bubble, but many of the parts are indeed from taking "extra" units apart. My suspicion is that most of them come from units that come back for some reason and are replaced. I've purchased a few shells over the years as well, and what they have are pulls from taking units apart, they even told me that. If you've ordered enough parts over the years (I have), you'll see that many of them have been used, they have solder on the tabs and most often, just chopped wires where a brand new part would have no wires. Many other parts also show clear evidence of being in service before they were packed up and shipped out as spare parts.
Mike; This has not always been the case this company is very different from the original Lionel who did not have to cannibalize complete units for parts. ( I can't say that never happened) The original Lionel co, farmed out very little in the way of parts production not so with the new Lionel who makes very little. Parts which sit in bins for long periods are just like $$$ sitting there and in todays world it makes more $ sense to cannibalize. (probably not so in china) I don't blame Lionel or any other U.S. company Congress writes the tax code and U.S. companies do what it takes to stay in business. With "MOST FAVORED NATION STATUS" it gives a B I G tax advantage to foreign Manufactures over domestic companies. It would be most revealing to do a forensic tax audit of everyone serving in Congress since WWll. This new Lionel company has done what was needed to keep their doors open in a less than friendly business environment and that makes me happy. Original Lionel was a manufacturer first the new Lionel is a marketing company first. j
