I have a PW sawmill installed. Works great. I also installed an operating fastrack to unload a log car. I looked on YouTube for a video showing the log dump car dumping into the sawmill. Couldn't find one. My concern is the log dump car appears to low to feed the logs into the sawmill. I did successfully unload 2 logs from my coal dump car onto the sawmill, but two is the max it will dump and I have a 97 Coal Elevator it feeds and the surrounding area. So, before I buy a log dump car, I thought it wise to ask your advice. Thanks.

This video shows the dump car and sawmill working together.

Larry,
Thanks! I'll buy one now with confidence it will work. My grandson will be most pleased!
MTH log dump cars also work. I use them with mine.
Thanks. I’ll check them out as well.
I placed a Lionel Sawmill on a siding with O-gauge tubular track running alongside. I also placed a remote activating track section for a Lionel Log Dump Car at the "right" place -- centered on the input tray of the SAWMILL. The "trick" is to place the SAWMILL at exactly the appropriate distance from the track. Too close, and the stakes on the log dump car may strike the input tray and won't allow the logs to roll onto the tray (i.e., not enough downward slope for gravity to do its job). Too far, and the logs fall into the gap between the rails and the sawmill tray.
However, if you are using FASTRACK, the geometry may be a little different.

Do yourself a favor and buy a postwar log dump car. Either a #3361 or a #3461. These cars both work excellent with the sawmill. Do not buy one of those crappy Lionel plastic cars like the one in the video. The break very easy.

Automating the Manual Lionel 6-12774 Lumber Log Loader
Lionel Log Dumping car, a 9303 or 3451 are too low to be used to discharge logs to my Lionel 464 Saw Mill log feeding platform. Both 027 track and Saw Mill are at grade. I have found a Lionel Coal Dumping car, 9304 or 16600 are high enough and can be used to dump logs to the 464 Lionel Saw Mill loading deck. Maybe not realistic but workable on my layout!

I have 027 track. If you have taller track like O, Lionel Log Dumping cars may work for you.

Oh. As Gene Wilder said in "Young Frankenstien"...."Too late."
Here are mine. Actual log unload and sawmill operation start at 5:25, but the first five minutes may be worth watching. (HD video shows well full screen on YouTube)

I snagged a new log loader car for $18 and it delivers the logs to the sawmill just fine. However, I also decided to buy a post war log dump car. I'm installing a TMCC Log Loader accessory and I concluded it's not too likely when the logs dump into a car, they would stay on the new dump car... I should have thought farther than my nose... and I have a long nose.

Fabulous Alex!! Thanks for giving me the " little kid totally enamoured by trains" feeling again. Your video made me feel 5 years old again! Love it!!!
Patrick,
The log operation, in particular the sawmill, are crowd favorites. Young and old alike really like it. And believe it or not, you would be surprised at how many people have asked me, "Are the logs really being cut now?" The first one to ask, about three years ago, was a 2-1/2 yearl old girl, who couldn't keep her eyes off of it.
Thanks for you comments!

Alex, thanks for posting. Terrific video. What was shown in the video of your layout is so well done, and that trestle bridge, WOW! You are an inspiration. I now have a better idea of how to coordinate log and sawmill operations...thanks.
Ed,
Thank you for your nice comments. I will be making a new video this winter, which will provide an updated view of the layout. In the meantime, here are a couple of older videos that seem to be popular (2-yr ago, 13 minutes; and 1-yr ago, 4 minutes):
