Remember Key has had 7 years to improve drives and detailing and to there credit they have done a great job while still keeping a minimal profit margin[by modelers for modelers]. Overland has always been about the business and this model is essentialy a rerun of the 2005 model, small detail changes to accomadate the later Heritage schemes and as Rich pointed out neither importer is going head to head.

Besides, Overland has been the major brass importer in HO and N over those past 7 years so to assume there won't be any improvements in their O scale is premature until it's more than vaporware.

Will they have ball bearing drives?  Probably not, but, who knows.  Micro bearings are now going for $0.10-0.25 per in quantity.  That's about the only significant improvement over the past 7 years I can think of.

There are still no standards for O scale DCC connections which Brain said he would try and include until it became apparent that was a loosing proposition.  But with the Titan now showing up in the wild...

Anyone will to pony up an additional $150-200 for a Titan and sound installed?  I certainly would.

I bought one several weeks ago, still not arrived but optimistic that the titan sounds will sound at least as good as the PS2/PS3 sounds.  IMO, the current QSI sounds are all too similar and it most cases not worth the money for an Atlas QSI Gold equipped loco. I certainly hope the Titan will produce more realistic and distinctive sounds than the existing QSI sound.

Recently at the our groups setup, we had trains running with an MTH GEVO (PS3), MTH GP38-2's (PS3), new Atlas GP60's (QSI), and Atlas SD40's (QSI) just to name a few for comparison.

Until you hear the 645 Non-Turbo in the GP38-2's you haven't heard what in my opinion is the best representation of the 645 non-turbo next to the real thing.  The notching is spot on.  The MTH GEVO is fantastic, while the Atlas units all sounded the same regardless of which prime mover is actually installed.  Almost thought I watching planes take off at an airport.

I do know the OMI is looking at some improvement to their locos. As for the topic of NS Heritage units I plan on buying all twenty units when they come out from OMI. They will be much better than the mth under the frame handrails and will have the NS specfic details that other models won't have. The OMI will also have the DCC plug so that one will be able to put in a titian sound decoder which is rated as one of the best for now. The last few models from OMI that I purchased run smooth as silk. Yes I know it may be a wait, but quality and details are important to me.
