I recently purchased a couple of pieces of Lionel rolling stock. When I took the cars out of their boxes, the paint looks good, but it appears there is a thin layer of shiny film on top of the paint layer (almost looks like where the cars touched the plastic in the boxes). Is there any way I can clean this off? Thanks. Tyler.

Try lifting it off with the sticky side of Scotch tape first.
or Take the shells off base and see it hot water will loosen.
or Try to loosen with hair dryer and lift off.
Best of luck!
I had a couple of NOS MPC boxcars that had their doors taped shut. The tape came off easily, but left a shiny area matching the piece of tape. Nothing I tried worked.
Thanks for the responses. I have tried everything. The car is brand new, sealed, and directly from a dealer. Is this common with Lionel?
Hi Lionel89 • I have never had this issues with a Lionel Box. But you could do a test area with Q-Tip and Goo Gone. I use GooGone for a lot of model train issues.
Good Luck & Cheers from Michigan
