First off, I am a rattle can painter.
Repainting a Lionel DGLE PRR SD40. Cab roof to be white, when I applied paint it immediately fisheyed. Managed to remove paint with some thinner on a rag as it had not set. Afterwards I washed everything with soap and water to get rid of the thinner residue. Unit is drying.
The factory finish I was painting over is new, maybe too slick? Do I need a fine primer such as Tamiya fine white for adhesion?
Rattle canned many previous, but always after some body mods or stripping so always a lot of water when sanding putty mods and a final wash.
Oil contamination, too slick a surface?
What do you pro painters think and what are your suggestions (besides an airbrush, which I never have mastered).
Thanks
