These are a few of my LEAST FAVORITE things related to our hobby:

- Scales listing on the Bay- I hate it when a listing does not show the scale.  I bought a "lot" of 1950's car models- guess what- 1/18th.  They looked out of place on my O Gauge layout.  So I gave the "lot" away.

- ditto on ANY auction site

Hijacked posts.  An originator on this or another forum starts a thread and somebody takes the thread in an entirely different direction.

- Short-lived posts.  I understand- a forum like this one cannot show hundreds of post topics on page 1.   But sometimes my posted threads are gone in 6 hours!  MY stuff is brilliant- it should stay up there for a long time

New stuff that is defective.  You spend $hundreds$ on a new O scale or gauge engine, and the X?& thing doesn't work, or (in one case for me) shorts out the track when you try and run it. I am about 50% "perfect" (meaning half of what I buy, NEW, has something wrong with it.)  I am on a first-name basis with service centers.  Doesn't SOMEBODY try this stuff out before they package it?    It is at best a small consolation that the companies "stand behind" their stuff- but far better to make it right the first time!!

-  Waiting 30 or more minutes for a service center to pick up the phone- I call it "bad music time".   Sometimes, (I am so old that) I forget why I called or who I am trying to talk to!  Again $hundreds$ of dollars for a product should get you a person more quickly.  And- I HOPE that the manufacturers NEVER take their service calls "offshore" where people cannot even pronounce my name. (I liked Tombstone AZ, where not once did I have to spell "Wyatt")

How 'bout you?? Pet Peeves??

They could at least play some good music like classic rock maybe? If we could listen to Led Zeppelin or The Eagles while on hold, that might put us in a better mood. I don't understand why they don't run the locomotives around a test loop before sending them out. I recall a picture in Model Railroader back in the early seventies of the stereotypical blond German young woman testing Marklin Locomotives on a loop before they were shipped. Even though my experience with modern trains has been mostly positive, I have gotten a lemon or two in the past that could have been avoided.

Thanks for giving us a Monday morning chuckle Mike!!

To which I'll add...

  • Folks/businesses who don't respond to emails....sent to the address they requested inquiries be directed to!!  ("Yeah, we gotta fix that someday......we haven't used that email address for a couple years now.")
  • Auction sites with a "Contact Seller" option...which ends up with a notification that the seller has no contact arrangement set up!!
  • Phone calls met with "Leave your phone number and a message.....we'll get right back to you!".....which never happens.   (Why don't they be more honest....and just play a 'toilet flush' recording at the end of the message?)
  • Zinc Pest......and no accountability/solution to the damage therefrom.

But, hey.....a cup of Joe, glass of Merlot, stein of Leinie, .....a hug from the spouse....tomorrow's another day.

I have a collection of model cars. When searching eBay, I always type 1/43 first (as in 1/43 or 1:43 1955 Ford wagon). I think many sellers are not trying to deceive...they just don't know about scale differences.

Forum-wise (any forum I'm on). Someone answers a question, and the person that asked it never replies with a "got it" or "thank you" etc.

The "43" is irritating in and of itself.

Has anyone actually looked at this thing?

Oh boy, lots of good jest here... something I really miss on the forum! My pet peeves:

1) Buying something from the on line auction and getting the wrong item

2) It says quilling whistle... but you have to buy the Wifi stuff to actually make it work... I just cannot work it on that wheel!

3) Those *#$#$* little engine to tender connectors and draw bars!!!! ARGH!!!

4) Unboxing a long awaited locomotive and the dang thing is PINK!

5) Couplers that do not work and others you have to smash together at lighting speed.

6) the Dreaded 3 flashing cab lights

7) Waiting for my RA number.

8) Having to turn the sounds down after 10:00 pm

9) selling something on the Bay and it cost 80 dollars to ship! But it only sold for 30! AND NO BOX will fit it.

10) Taking an Engine apart to root cause why the sound is not working and it was just turned down on the remote...

11) Looking at the new prices in the catalogs, with all of the Rehash and its doubled in price... cause ?!!

12) Getting your new locomotive from your LHS and the delivery people played drop kick the package with it.

13) Buying an expensive locomotive, and then another and you are tapped out, then the engine you have been waiting for appears for sale

15) All my Ordered Items coming in 2 weeks before Christmas... ALL OF IT!

16) Selling some track and switches and realizing you need that switch a week later for the layout expansion

17) The Wife saying you have another package with a disdainful look

18) Saving for York and the Hot water Heater goes

19) Coming up from the underside of the layout from wiring and  you left you phone under there... somewhere...

20) And last but not least! Mixing a great big batch of plaster and finding out that you forgot to put the retarder in it...

ENJOY THOSE TRAINS !!!

MY PET PEEV

Sending an E-Mail to Lionel's "TALK TO US" and not receiving a reply!!  Why do they (DEAN) tell you to send an E-MAIL to them requesting information and when you do, they never reply!!! I think that is one of the most rudeness things they do as a Company. I  guess I worked too long (43 Years) for a Communication Co. (AT&T)!!!

What I hate is on the phone is."Your call is very important to us.Then the numbers start.Press number 1 then press 2 and for this department press then.Press 0 to speak to some one.You wait such and such is not in.Leave a your name and number and we will get back to you."

I don't have any.  I'm retired, happy, and I have new knees, new hips, and replacement corneas.  I can walk fairly well without pain, and can see pretty good, and I like trains and other stuff, and little things don't bother me.  It's the BIG things that scare me.  So, I'll ignore them and run my trains with smoke and noise (sounds).

QUALITY  CONTROL  !

ANY COMPANY THAT MAKES STUFF IN CHINA !  SHOULD BE INSPECTED FOR DAMAGE ! THEN RAN TO MAKE SURE IT RUNS !

PLAIN & SIMPLE !

YES ! I am yelling !   I am tired of getting broken stuff right from the companies !  LIONEL, MTH, ATHEARN, WALTHERS & others !

I have been buying far less because of this !

My most recent purchase was tested at store before I bought it !  (LIONEL TRAIN SET )
