Is it OK to use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly be used as a lubrication on plastic gears of locomotives or is this a no-no? If not is there any lube recommended that can be used that can be purchased at local Home Depot or Loews?
Thank You

My recommendation would be to use white lithium grease not Vaseline. Can be found at most auto parts stores.
Do not use Vaseline. It's not a lubricating grease.
Labelle's white lithium grease.
Thank you all for your replies.
There used to be a product called Lubriplate that was formulated for plastic gears. They used to advertise in OGR. I don't know what happened to them.
Thank you for the reply.
I've been using red lithium grease and Red and Tacky grease by Lucas Oil for years with excellent results.
Thanks for the info and reply.
Red and Tacky grease is my go to lubrication for gears . Cheap and effective available at must auto parts stores.
Thanks for the info.
Manufacturers of certain plumbing fixtures specify to not use petroleum jelly on rubber parts or parts that have to slide into one another. Apparently, it degrades the gaskets or similar parts. Quite a few years ago, I purchased a plumbing fixture, cannot recall which type at the moment. It came with a small packet of what looks like PJ. I've had that packet in my plumbing tool box since and it has come in handy more than once.
My childhood Marx set, and my brother's, stated to lube those #999's with Vaseline....that was those and then, bullet proof, ...now...see above..
