Hey Tom "Gilly"
Love your "weathered-rusted" girder bridges - How did you do them ?
Thanks
Joe S
All primers, painted in layers. Started with a black primer and made sure everything was well covered from every angle. Then a Charcoal primer with a left to right sweep. Much less primer than the black. Maybe 50% less. Nothing was completely covered from every angle from this point on.
One of the keys to the brown is to move way back and use even less. Dust it from a couple of feet away. Using an up/down sweep, just a very light dusting. Last color was a lighter brown primer, basically a spritz. Everything was sealed-up with dull coat.
You have a couple of options. Go buy a bunch of stuff at the store. Or like me, root around and see what you've got on hand. A partially plugged spray head makes a splatter. Terrible if you want it to look nice. Perfect if you're trying to make it look old.
You cannot mess up! If it doesn't look good, just go back with the black and start over.
Thanks Tom - Love the idea of using "flat finish / primer" - going to play around a little
