I ran across this article today and took a look at the beautiful pictures of the steam trains still in use in China. While there are fewer in use these days (per the article) still excited to see them captured during operation.

I can't help but wonder out loud if the people that build the "toy" loco's in China, that we purchase. If they took a steam train to work in their manufacturing facility. Maybe a bit of a pipe dream as more modern, electric trains are used in mass transit...bit of a romantic idea I thought I'd share.

One of my favorites is the non-environmentally friendly picture of the slag cars dumping molten slag onto the mountain side. What I like is the contrasting colors and I began to noodle a bit on what it would take to model on a layout.

What's your favorite picture?

Beautiful photos, thank you for the link!  My favorite has to be the distance shot of the copper mine train.  I may purchase this book!

When I went to the excursion in Phillipsburg, NJ a few years ago, I was happy to see a steam locomotive that was younger than I was!  The amazing thing was that the cab (and indeed, most of the general design) was so similar to US steam that the engineer said that they got used to her right away!
