General note to the mods.....

Several members (myself included) have had problems posting photos over the weekend. Happened to me yesterday. Had to edit the post and upload the photos a second time.

Following the same steps as always, using the add attachments link.

I post from my MacBook Air desktop.  I've definitely had problems posting photos/videos for the initial starting post ( as the thread host ) for Switcher Saturday yesterday and last Saturday Feb 24.  February 24 I tried loading several videos.  Each were well under the limit of 100 MB.  I uploaded each video individually.  I didn't get a message/notification but the videos would not open once uploaded.  I tried a second time to no avail and gave up and alternatively posted some photos.  The photos uploaded fine and were visible to the entire SWSAT/ OGR Forum  community.

For the Switcher Saturday initial starting post yesterday, I uploaded one video ( 8 seconds ) and 12 photos to sync with an accompanying story about 12:45 a.m. Saturday morning.     The video posted fine as did the accompanying captions texts, however none of the photos could be viewed by the SWSAT/OGR Forum  community, although I could see them fine on my computer screen after clicking the "Publish" button.   Immediately after clicking the "Publish" button, I checked ( as I always do ) to see if  my SWSAT post actually posted to the forum.  I saw that it had in fact posted successfully,  complete with all photos, captions which told the story,  and the one video.  Thinking my SWSAT post was up and running, I immediately turned in  for the night.  When I checked the post later Saturday morning, around 6:30,  MELGAR's post alerted me that he could not see any on my photos and could only view the video.  Arnold Cribari also confirmed that he also could not see photos and could see the video.   I got e mail from others telling me the same.  I deleted the caption text portion and left the introductory text and video up.  There was no time for me to repost because I had to get to work early yesterday morning.   Before leaving for work, I did make a quick post which included two photos and it posted successfully as confirmed by several forum members.

Later yesterday afternoon,  I re-read Rich Melvin's Posting Photos on the OGR Forum post.  Yep.  I was not missing any steps in my posting ritual.    I was right in step with everything Rich said to do.   I then recreated my story with photos and posted to the SWSAT thread.  This time instead of editing and posting to my initial published post which started yesterday's Switcher Saturday March 2, Edition, I posted to the thread's chain of posts double checking everything Rich Melvin said to do.   Once I clicked the "Post Reply" button, I checked to see if my complete  content posted.  It did successfully.  In checking the SWSAT later there posts from member saying they could not see the photos and only the text was visible.   I've been posting as Rich said to do for years now.  Those steps he outline are simple and ingrained in my brain because I post on OGR Forum often.

This all being said, I've noticed at times  when trying to post videos, over the last several months I've had more frequent issues.  I always keep well under the 100MB max and receive error messages when trying to upload.  I've been uploading using the same steps for years now.  Since CNJ #1601 is also using MAC equipment and having these same problems, could this be a MAC related issue?

No it's definitely NOT unique to Apple, Mac products.   For at least 2 months, uploading photos takes an inexcusably long time.   So long, I now walk away and go do something else.  As everyone else noted, it has nothing to do with the 100 mb limit, I have never exceeded that in 10 years of membership, and I am not doing anything different than I have done for at least 5 years regarding use of the "Add Attachments" tool.

Several days ago, I was attaching numerous photos for a For Sale Post....  the first 3 uploaded fast, processed and got the Success feedback, then it went into "Don't hold your breath mode".    Finally ended up closing the window after 30 minutes and starting all over.

I also see the new delay mentioned above that occurs when you finally hit the "Post Reply" button, sometimes it's fine, but more often lately it takes anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes to actually execute...

I now always open new posts in a separate tab, that way if I respond, I can simply click back on the original tab and continue browsing the site while the snail-slow replies post.  The slow posting is almost always when there are graphics involved.

A few hours can make a lot of difference. Here's part of an email I got from Crowdstack Tech Support yesterday morning at 11:31 am:

We see that your secondary server has much higher IO load than your primary server which might be causing the problems your users are seeing when trying to upload files. I'd like to move your secondary server to a different host to see if that improves the situation. The maintenance would take one to four hours where you would only be running on your primary server, so there might be some degraded performance during that time period.

I approved this hosting change yesterday, as soon as I got the email. It was completed last night at 7:04 pm. Things should be OK now.

Posting graphics is still pretty slow, 15-20 seconds after uploading a single graphic to insert it, another 15-20 seconds of delay when you actually post the message.   It wasn't so long ago that it only took a few seconds at most to insert them and another few to post the message.

Posting messages without graphics happens in a flash.

Thanks for checking on this Rich. The pages seem to be loading faster. I haven't uploaded any photos today but I'll have some tonight to add.

I have a number of posts in the Buy Anything Cool Lately thread, where if I edit the text of the post (fixing typos or adding links), certain photos break and have to be re-added from the attachments box. I've actually added super/subscript text reminders to myself re-inspect the post for broken photos following any edits. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason, despite a similar resolution and filesize, it's always the same ones that break and others that never do. I can supply some links to the posts in question if desired.
