Interesting question Lee.  They appear to be M10000 series locomotives ordered only for the Union Pacific and made by EMD and Pullman-Standard.  The M10003-06 is on the left and is flanked on the right by EMD6's.

By doing a google image search I turned up a Wikipedia result which has copied Mr. Delano's transparency.

My pleasure Lee...  A lot of the joy, for me, in this hobby is relating my toy train "empire" to real world track equipment and experiences.  I don't have any hands on experience in the real train world and I enjoy researching information and facts about what happened in history and what's going on today.  My favorite two magazine subscriptions are "Diesel Era" and "Trains".
