I recently bought a cherry PS1 Steam Locomotive and then bought a QS-1 Side Kick Controller thinking it would help me control it better.

Did I make  a HUGE mistake? It doesn't seem to do any more than the old ZW I'm using!

I'm attempting to post a pic....

I believe it just gives you the bell and whistle features that the transformer already gives you!

Post War ZWs do NOT have bell controls.

Duh... I think he's talking about the two-button control mentioned in the OP's post, the QS-1 Side Kick Controller.  Most of use actually do know that the ZW doesn't have the bell button.

Sorry.  Somehow I read past your response that stated the same thing.  I skimmed way too quickly.

In any event, it presumably does add the bell, as you stated and I reiterated because I didn't read thoroughly enough .

The main reason not to use a ZW on a newer engine is the slow speed of the circuit breaker(CB).  The boards can fry before the CB trips!!  As I said earlier, I recommend a MTH Z750 or Z1000 with the controller to vary voltage.

Hi Dave,

That QS1 box I bought turned out to be junk.  I did, however, place in-line surge protection as well as TVSs all over the place.
