I have a engine I,m not to sure of. It kind looks like a Lionel 248 but the headlight and flag holders are different than anything I can match. Also the grab handle by the doors are different. I've looked for a few hours on the internet and what books I have but no luck, or exact match. Any ideas, Thanks, Chris.

Most likely it was modified in some handy person's work shop.
I hoping the roof with the flag holders and headlight would gives some clues. I know the 248 is in the wrong position, and it has solid red wheels.
Oh it a 248 thats been heavily modified... frenched in head light... roof mounted flag holders, scale steam pilots added to frame.... eunit slot on top?
I'm going to say it started out as a Ives 3260. Reasons:
a.) elongated frame.
b.) no stamped handrail holes.
c.) the 248 number plate does not look like Lionel typeface, and it is too large to have come from the bottom plate indent.
Looks like nice workmanship however.
Interesting, lot of work went into that! Clean 'er up and do a nice paint job, it'll be a head turner! Any photos of how the e unit is mounted?
