How do you manage getting around under and above the layout?

I minimize the pain by building the layout at a height of 47", and by not using L girder construction.

I just use a creeper.

What I can't easily get to under my layout I will use a creeper to sit on as well.

I have always used my Snap On 6 wheel creeper for jobs that last a long time, under the layout.
Creepers are used to secure the rails from slippage when placed next to the ties.

Padded mat at my 32" crawl under (about 75" long), knee pads, 6 wheel crawler
that only helps sometimes be cause of layout height, all that being said, it SUCKS
having to crawl under!

My railroad is two feet wide for the most part, and 52" high to the railhead. Access is as simple as sitting on a stool next to it and reaching in, and in the case of topside access a two foot reach for a taller man such as myself is no issue.
