Plug and play accessory used without the plug & play wire?

This might have been asked/posted here on OGR but can you use a plug and play accessory without the wired plug into fastrack? I see where the 2 wires are soldered underneath the Lionel flag and USA flag accessory. My son bought this for my birthday and is my first plug and play piece.

A simple unsoldering of the wires and then re-soldered 2 wires on the same spot with a simple on/off toggle switch wired to track power or an accessory post on a transformer. Or just cut the plug off and use the wire that is already soldered. Putting up a tubular track layout soon.

Curious what folks would do?

There is a pigtail 6-82038 (which used to be provided), or just cut the wires and proceed normally. See here, here, here and here, here or here. More here, here, here, here and elsewhere.

Thank you for the many threads. Plenty of info. I figured I could cut the plug or unsolder the wire underneath and simply solder new wire for power leads.
