Hi

New to the hobby. Hoping someone can provide some info. I have an MTH O gauge subway set. I want to have it go from one point to another, stop at station  and then automatically reverse like a bumper trolley.

I contacted a company who sells auto reverse units and advises it would work if MTH subway car has an FNRNF e unit sequence and interior lights remain on when in neutral.

I assume he means the sequence is forwards neutral reverse neutral and forward.

does anyone have mth subway cars that made them auto reverse and what company did you  buy a product from  to accomplish this?

Does anyone know if powered subway car even has an E unit? If it does, does it sequence in FNRNF and do lights remain on in neutral? Haven’t been able to get a definitive answer from MTH.

Appreciate any advice from those with experience in the hobby.

I have several MTH subway sets bought 12 years ago but never ran  them . Still in boxes.

What is PS2 PS2? Is this an MTH train?  When you say it will reverse automatically do you mean if I am using an MTH digital command system which I don’t  currently have

I was considering running subway sets  the old conventional way.

It means ProtoSound version 2 or 3 etc.. It's an MTH "branding" of the board type used.

They are command trains but they also run as a conventional unit.

Using command is still just an option to fully access all the features.

Read what Barry suggests, advice on MTH doesn't get much better than his. His push for command is heartfelt and gental imo (fyi, I only run conventional, and own zero MTH... by chance mostly)

A dcs command unit might accept a programmed stop sequence ? (I don't know if that needs extra "boxes" or what? ....read )

Long Island is big. Nassau Hobbies is a sponsor of the forum. I don't know if you near there. Call them and ask if they could demonstrate the system for you.

I have attached the DCS manual. Read about Routes and Scenes starting at page 89.

What you do is record a series of commands to make the engine and accessories do what you want them to do then play it back.

it would also help if you provided the MTH product number to receive better assistance.

1) the problem with using the DCS station stop/reverse program is that the stops move a bit, so after a while it may hit a bumper or stop short at the end.  Great idea but hard to implement because of wheel slippage, etc.

2) it would be easiest to implement using a e-unit type trolley, isolated center rail at each end, and a timer circuit to trigger the stop-and-reverse sequence.  Highly reliable and always stops in the right place. (A Dallee unit or homebrew timing setup)

IMHO....
