This weekend I picked up a 2 rail Pola Maxi boxcars. They have a lot of nice detail added and look nice mixed in with some Atlas PS-1 40ft Boxcars. My questions are were they based on a specific prototype and how close to scale are they? Any answers or comments would be greatly appreciated.

They should be models of PS-1 boxcars. Lionel bought these molds for their first modern Standard O boxcars, gondolas and flat cars.

I don't think the Pola cars are of any specific prototype, definitely not PS-1's but they are 1/4" scale.
Prior to being used by Lionel, they were part of AHM's short-lived O scale line.
