After all the reported production problems with the passenger cars it would appear that at least one set is working to specs.

it looks like I have missed something in the past, what is the actual problem with the PE passenger cars? I thought they would be using the heavyweights they produced about eight years ago and I don't remember them being problematic then.

Lionel reported that part of the delay on the delivery was due to a manufacturing mess up with the gauging of the wheel sets on the passenger cars I belive. I am really into the more scale-ish offerings but I am really looking forward to my PE set (so is my 4 year old!!). I hope Lionel markets this set right and gets it exaposure in the market place the way they do with their RTR o gauge sets.

Does this sound like they dropped the original design of wheel sets used in the past for the new cylindrical hopper style which would explain the need to re-work them.

Will the new wheel sets be as per the original style again?

Didn't notice the wheels but think i would sense i pulled the wheel off my hopper first thing when i bought one, we ran the polar express from 9am sat till 4pm no derailment no uncouplings no issues what so ever. i think he gave a oct date for the polar and may for the berks but ill check back with the club and make sure
