I've been in touch with Scott Mann at 3rd Rail - since he is basing the upcoming Superliner cars off of the GGD ATSF El Capitan hi-level car run from 2017, he may be interested in re-running the hi-level cars. Like other of his sets, these would be offered in 2R and 3R. As those of you know who have any of these cars, they are absolutely top quality.

If you are interested, please post your interest here so Scott can gauge the demand for these sets. I for one would love to have a set. The old K-Line hi-levels, not as nice as the GGD cars, are running on Ebay for $300-400+ each! Ballpark cost would be $350/car.

You aren't committing to anything, and Scott isn't promising a run. This is just to see what interest is out there. I am just a customer of his, and interested in seeing these re-run, I have no other affiliation with the company.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

My thoughts are this:

if Scott offered a 6pk El Capitan & a 4pk Super Chief then we have a very nice 10 car base set. It also give those who just want the El Capitan the opportunity to just have that set & add extra coaches & head end cars.

El Capitan could be 1 transition dorm car, (2) step down coaches, 1 coach, 1 lounge, 1 diner

Super Chief could be 1 4-4-2 sleeper, 1 10-6 sleeper, diner, dome lounge.

extras: baggage, RPO, 10-6 sleeper, High level coach, brass big dome, and all cars with the exception of the RPO could also be done in Amtrak phase I.

these are just my thoughts. I emailed Scott as well. I don’t have any special connections or influence with Sunset/ 3rd rail- GGD. I’m just dreaming. Happy new year everyone.

The E1 A-B is currently on the 3rd rail website and the F3's were just run for  2nd time so what engine are you holding out for?

The locomotives that go best with the hi-level El Cap cars are the F7s.  I missed out on those in ATSF.  I do have a set of first run units in 2 rail and PRR.  Now that my ATSF car fleet has expanded, I wouldn't mind seeing another run of F7s so I can get an proper L-A-B-C set.  Of course if the FP45 takes off first, three of those would do the trick too even if my RPO would not be appropriate for that era train.
