Had a great time at the First Frost Train show in Allentown Met with the guys for breakfast at the Ritz and hit the Farmers market after the show On the way home Vinny and I stopped to see Walter Matuch at his home What a treat that was He lives on a farm in the middle of nowhere but has a beautiful house and an even better layout Here are some pics
This is Walters home Susie warned me not to call it a log cabin to Walter so you know that exactly what I had to do Its gorgeous
When we walked down to the basement to see the layout Walter was sitting in front of a wall of trains He has more Jersey Central engines than the Jersey Central had. This picture reminded me of an old ad in OGR for a store called Mizell trains where the owners picture was in front of a wall of trains I called him Mister Mizell the rest of the day.
The layout is huge and runs like a clock All the backdrop buildings were made by Walter on Foam board There are 4 main lines and two additional loops that service the passenger terminal, the coal yard and the oil depot.
For those of you that remember HOBob before he passed there were many of his military models on the layout
Here are a couple of the crew that visited
Before we left we had to see some RAilroad memorabilia in the backyard Walter actually worked on this caboose when he worked for the CNJ His team that included hos late father-in-law fully restored it
Walter was gracious host and I am glad we went to visit him Just as we were leaving we heard a train horn in the distance Went up the hill behind the caboose and caught a glimpse of three Norfolk Southern engines passing.
