POST WAR LIONEL #71 LAMP POST

I am about to finalize my scenery ideas for my new layout. Over the past year I have purchased several #71 lamp posts on our OGR site. It just occurred to me that they are 6" tall which relates to 24' in real life at a 1/48 scale. Isn't this a bit tall for lamp posts in real life or am I missing something? I think the posts in our town are about 14' tall.

I think these were also available in prewar Lionel. Maybe they were originally designed for standard gauge.

Any comments?

Yes, they are oversized. They look good with post war items like the passenger station or baggage station. So it depends on what look you want. When I converted my layout to have a scale look I swapped them out for smaller ones.
