I have a pw 681 with a broken spring on the collector assembly. If I can get a new spring and rivet, how do I get the old one off and how do you crimp the end of the new one when its put into place, never done this before. Thanks in advance for any help.

You can get the new rivet and spring for Jeff Kane at ttender.com (order more than one rivet). While you're waiting, Dremel off the head of the old rivet and pop it out with a narrow nail set (or even a nail). Put the new parts back in with the head of the rivet on the flat of an anvil/vise and peen it with a small hammer. Without a rivet press, it will be infinitely easier to have another person hold the assembly while to hit the rivet.

A couple of typos there....sorry. I'd order a couple of rivets as they are very cheap.

No problem.....it's an easy fix.....except for not having enough hands to hold everything in place. You might want to replace the other spring as well, since you have the collector off. Just be sure to watch how the ends of the spring lie in the assembly. Sometimes when you are reassembling, the spring can do a........"BOING" and disappear.

A good reason to order a couple of extra springs and rivets.
I know what you mean, that has happened to me in the past so I always order extras
