Happy Sunday! I'm going to attempt to rebuild a smoke unit for a 2046. I'm trying to figure out how it works. When you put a pill (or liquid) through the stack, the pellet sits directly on the heater (part with the wound wire) and then melts and flows into the absorbent material in the bowl. The smoke is then blown out through the stack. Is this correct? The heater doesn't short out from having liquid or a pellet turning to liquid on it?

I'm assuming I'll need the following: Smoke heater element #671-225, Smoke unit lining #671-212 and Stack gasket #671-181. Is there a replacement spring as well? The lining ("pac man") seems to either be more white and like a pad, or yellow and more like fiberglass insulation. Is there any difference in the two?

Thanks!

The pad in the unit can be substituted with the rope.  Cut it in half and pull it apart to fluff it up.  If you use the liquid it will pass by the heater via the notch in the corner of that heater and soak the fiber from the rope.  That will extend the life of the heater.

Adding a 2026-44 piston return spring will make it puff better, but it will probably need a good cleaning.  My 2026 was gunked up with wax from the pellets making the piston inoperable.

On the plus side you can run the engine with the heater on and not worry about burning it up like with the newer ones.
