I have a large layout and it currently uses one TIU channel/one throttle per loop (Z4k tracks feed fixed TIU channels, fixed power feeds variable channels).  Because I have extra TIU channels and throttles available, I am considering breaking each loop into 2 power districts. If each power district has its own TIU channel and throttle, how do you coordinate the voltage when running conventional trains? Is it possible to adjust both throttles simultaneously as if they were one? Running in command mode seems straightforward, not clear how easy it will be running conventional.

Thanks!

Thanks Barry,

I just tested your advice and now understand how selecting All Z4K and All TIU works.

Given that I have two Z4000s, and assuming each gets assigned to a separate loop (both throttles), is there a way to control each loop separately using All Z4K?

Also, is this contained in the DCS WIFI Companion?  I loaned my DCS Companion 3rd Edition copy to a friend who is new to DCS 😖.  Thinking I need to get it back!

To control a loop separately, just select and use the individual Z4K Track assigned to that loop. When done, you can reselect ALL Z4K TRACKS.

Also, is this contained in the DCS WIFI Companion?

Yes, it is.

I just reviewed my digital copy of the 3rd Edition and I believe the answer is on page 101, "Using more than 3 Z4000s with Z4K Tracks".

Am I on the right track (no pun intended)?

That section discusses haveing Z4K TRACK control of more than 3 Z4000s.

Barry,

To ensure my understanding:  If I have two Z4K tracks assigned to the same loop and want to run conventional, selecting ALL Z4K TRACKS will adjust the voltage simultaneously.

However, if there are two loops (two Z4000s / four Z4K tracks) and I only want to run one of the loops conventional, then I have to select the Z4K tracks individually.  This seems difficult to do operationally, especially if both loops are running conventional.

Is my understanding correct?  I was hoping I could assign one Z4000 to one loop and have its two Z4K tracks behave in the same manner as what I experience with one Z4K/one loop.

Thank you,

Scott

Scott,

Your choice is to either select any Z4K TRACK or an individual Z4K TRACK to operate.

Of course, the same is true of being able to select any TIU TRACK (for a Variable channel) or ALL TIU TRACKS to operate.

If, however, you're using the DCS App, the options are a little different. As discussed in The DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition in Appendix G: Power Control Tracks on pages 232-234, there's a way to obtain just about complete flexibility in this regard.
