PowerMaster and Post War LW

Good question... My first power -master/ cab-1   came with  a inline fuse (7 1/2 amp?)  so I don't think anything else is required. However if  just using the straight LW  I would also fuse it between the transformer and track.  Why take a chance?

I'd consider using additional circuit protection, probably a 6A circuit breaker.  Also, remember that PW transformers are rated on input power, not output power, so you are probably getting a maximum of around 100 watts from that LW.

If you're operating strictly command, there's no need for the the PowerMaster.

I thought that the PowerMaster would offer several beneficial things, circuit protection, ability to kill power instantaneously , so your saying just go to the LW with a in line fuse

   With the 6-10 Amp Breakers and running Command, there is no need of the Power Master unless you want to run conventionally also.  Guns is correct as usual.  You have an e-Stop on your TMCC Cab1, which if I were you I would eventually upgrade to Legacy and add DCS also.  The kid will love it as they grow.

It does... I would use it in a second if that's all I had to work with. It's fun.   That's how we all (some)  started before the command base and TPCs days .  

For excellent protection, you can consider either a fuse, magnetic circuit breaker, or electronic circuit protector such as the PSX-AC module.  For thermal circuit breakers, I recommend going down in size, for the LW, I'd have no more than a 5A breaker.
