Jim: Have you tried the "usual suspects" parts folks like Hennings, etc?

Thanks looked on their parts list didn't see them.

Jim, Don't know what they look like, so could you provide a photo, and point out what you are missing?  Never had a 256, to know what the frame looks like under the body.

Unfortunately I don't have a picture.The only time I have seen them is on an old Ebay listing(which I have saved).I bought this kind of thinking I would have to make them because I knew I would never be able to afford a complete 256.

I can post a picture of frame-might try MTH as well

Do you have the part number from the Lionel parts list?  If not you can probably find it in the Olsen train parts library.

jagrick ,I'd appreciate it if you can post a picture.I looked at olsens and it's not listed.

Jim, prewar engines of this type simply had extensions up from the frame that attached to the motor/wheel assembly using four screws.  Is it possible that they were broken off on your frame, or are you sure that the frame you bought is correct for this engine?

Can you confirm that this is the engine you have?

The only loco I have, to compare is a 248, which has vertical tabs, as part of the frame, to mount the motor.  If the frames are comparable, it’s a good chance yours are broken off.  If that’s the case, you need to make them.

I have a Richart frame. the lower is like a normal frame. the upper part of the frame goes up and over the motors. Upper and lower are welded together. the motors have one contact with the upper frame at the top of the motor.

Pictures of what you have would help

here you go. The frame attaches to the same 4 points it would in the standard frame. It is not attached to this motor but is in proper position.

The frame with the white 2 on it looks right. motors mount at 1 point on top as yours do. The brackets for the motors seem to do the job and they will not be visible when installed. all look OK by me.

I only have the standard gauge hangars.  That motor hangar is correct as shown. I do not have that part. Joe Mania has all of the #256 bodies, frames etc. from our purchase of the MEW parts. Joe might have some.  Harry

I checked and I do not have any completed parts. I did locate the tooling and as time permits I’ll make some.

Joe and Harry, any chance anyone has the angled bar that connects both reverse switches with the lever?

I found this photo on google, I wanted to see what that bar looked like. The 256 is one of my favorites.
