I was thinking the same thing.  100 bucks.  I don't blame you for not wanting to take it apart.  It's a rats nest in those things.

Issued at least twice from Atlas.  Maybe, one of the first models, with EOB, (Engineer On Board), speed control.  Early speed control, involved a tach-strip and sensor.  The paint on the wheels/wheel flanges tended to be a problem at slow speed.   Nice model. It takes time to open the hoods.  Figure twice the time to re-assemble. My model, picture is dated 2002. Have fun, Mike CT.

I think these guys want your engine. I would price it like a dummy engine at 150 bucks. Some of us can actually fix these and would snap them up at a buck fifty.

Split axle gears?  Or did they start aging the plastic before cutting?

There are no plastic gears in an Atlas RS-1 to split.  If it is indeed complete but not working, with no cosmetic damage then I think at $150 it should be a ready sale.

If the RS-1 is 2 rail it won't no "Engineer on Board" - that's a 3 rail board.   Some AtlasO 2 rail locomotives came with DCC sound decoders installed - some did not.  The label on the end of the box should indicate the factory installed features.  Either way IMO $100 is a fair price for a non running locomotive.   

You are correct.  I was thinking of the Weaver Alco models.

There were some rare Atlas 2 rail AC units that had TMCC. An attempt to see if TMCC was an equal substitute for DCC, in an AC environment.   Didn't last long.

You have prices between 100 and 150. If your putting it on a table at a show. I’d go with the 150 price. For sure you will be offered less. It’s then up to you to decide what you will let it go for. If you put it out with a price of 100. The offers will probably start at 70.

Thanks all for the help. I've got two possible buyers from this list both in NJ where I am. Going to make an offer, really rather not ship if possible do to its weight and potential damage.
