Hello all,

new member to the Forum, so it’s with absolute pleasure to meet you all. My name is Nick, and I’m currently in the process of building an o scale layout. Currently, I have a floor layout and have a base 3, as well as the mth wtiu. Legacy runs great, and never a problem. The wtiu, has been nothing of a headache. I’ve read many people are having issues, some similar to the one I’ve been having, but I still can’t find a solution.  Currently I have 3 ps3 engines, and a ps2. All 4 will never come up when I try to connect them via the app. The app will crash, time out or do nothing at all. Once in a while the engines will start up and the background dialog will run, that’s as far as I can get. I’ve taken everything off the track, shut down the base 3,deleted and installed the app, I’ve even gone as far as getting a new wtiu. I’m stumped. If I’ve left out any crucial details, please let me know. Thank you all in advance,

Nick

Welcome to the forum, this is a great place for help with issues like this!  Hopefully we can help you get this one sorted.

Can you help with some more info first, how do you have the WTIU connected to the track?  What power supply are you using?  What type of device are you using, ie. type of phone or tablet?  Have you made sure to update the firmware of the WTIU with the latest version (see link below)?

Hey Art,

thanks for the reply. I’m also subscribed to your youtube channel 😁. I’m running a Lionel power house 180 watt power supply that’s plugged directly into the wtiu and provides track power from there. I’ve used both my phone and iPad, to no avail. Tried airplane mode, taking screen sleep off etc. thanks again for replying

Ok what firmware does the WTIU have? There is a known issue that MTH fixed earlier this month that was causing issues with lionel power bricks.

Might be they are not getting the watchdog signal.

Sometimes nothing happens to a loco, sometimes they may come up in conventional (and the app can't control them even though they are running, and you hear random chatter).

I have a TIU and will be installing a WIU this weekend.

But, I think I had seen on a video that it usually takes about two minutes for the WTIU to be ready to go.

Not sure what the directions say about when to apply power, but make sure you do thar per the instructions.

If you let the WTIU run through its set up, and apply track power when you are supposed to, you should get the DCS signal to your locos.

So let it do its boot up process, then flip on track power? I haven’t tried that yet.

Yeah try that, I find that if I'm too fast and have track power before the WTIU is fully booted I can't see my engines. There are some people who leave their WTIU on all the time and just turn track power off ie unplug or switch off the brick or transformer.
