I have a Legacy cab 2 and base wired with 135w Powermaster and 180w brick to the track and a separate conventional transformer wired separately to the track. When I try to program an engine in the prog mode with the cab 2 system, it doesn't program easily When I use the conventional transformer set at full power the engine programs easily. What's causing my problems using the the cab2 power master system?

Based on your being able to program any locomotive, we can rule out defective locomotives or defective CAB2. Without knowing anything about your connections or your layout, I would look at how the CAB2 is connected to your track. Also make sure that your equipment is plugged into an outlet with a solid ground rather than a power strip or surge protector.
We’ll see if anyone jumps in here with some other things you could try.
First off, the PowerMaster has nothing to do with programming an engine, so I'd remove that from the picture. If you're "programming" without the Legacy system, what are you using.
You need to be specific as to EXACTLY how things are connected and specifically what equipment you're using.
The connections are 180w brick to the power master( 6-37146), the power master to lockon to both center and outside rails, the Cab 2 base one wire to the outside rail. I run conventional engines as well as tmcc and Legacy
It may be that when using the powwrmaster to program tmcc or legacy it only fully sets the full power to the track by using its id and command mode setting
You are correct, if you have the PM on the Conventional setting, you probably don't have any track power, If that's the case, the engine won't run obviously.
