I recently purchased the R17 MTH Proto 3 Subways. The motor car of this set can only pull 1 or 2 cars at most. If I tried to place more dummy cars the motor car derails. Wondering if anybody else has this issue. If so what can I do to pull more cars?

Did you check to see that both of the motors on the power car are operating and operating at the same speed.

Did you figure out why the power car could only pull 1 or 2 car? If you are still having this problem you can phone me at Tom's Trains located in Ardsley @ 914 478 9365 and you can bring the car to the store and maybe I can figure out what is wrong.

Everything appears to be "working" on the motor. I believe the issue is the Proto 3 motor cars are noticeably lighter than the older proto 2 cars. For this reason I believe the limited weight on the Proto 3 motor car limits the number of cars it can pull. I think this is an issue since the train has to run on an upgrade as part of my layout. It only derails when goes on an upgrade with 2 or more cars. Is there some weight I can put in the motor car?

Electron,
Have you tried to run the same train on an upward turning slope with the at least 3 cars?
