Hello everyone,

Just wanted to see if I'm missing anything in regards to things I can do at home to fix the problem I have with this engine.  I recently had a new (never run) Proto Sound Pennsy T1 upgraded to Proto 3.  Every feature works great except for one thing: when in reverse the engine jerks pretty badly.  While running forward its smooth and has great pulling power.  Knowing that the engine is 20 years old I lubricated and greased it again, but it didn't seem to have any effect as to correcting the reversing issue.

I figured before I sent it off to be repaired maybe someone could think of something I may be missing that I could fix myself.  Thanks again for your help everyone!

Did you open it up and check the worm shafts? Rods in place and all rod bolts tight? See if a rod bolt is hitting the crosshead? Does the motor run in forward and reverse on DC power disconnected from the board? Can you run the motor connected to the chassis on straight DC power (motor disconnected from the electronics) and see if the problem still persists?

This sounds like a mechanical issue and not an electronics issue.
