I was going to respond to an existing topic on this but it's been locked:

Did you set LABORED SMOKE to AUTO in the CONTROL MENU?

Barry, does this still apply if the smoke unit has been turned off or removed?  I've removed 5 of 6 smoke units in my steamers and the other is turned off.

In your book it says "Press soft key S2 (AUTO) to set Proto Chuff to automatic operation.  This will cause the chuff rate of the active engine to increase as the engine speeds up and decrease as the engine slows down."

I have all 6 steamers set at 3 chuffs per revolution (wow, I think it can be set to 16 per rev!), what should I expect with the Proto Chuff set to automatic?  Will I notice it more if I lower the chuff rate to 2 per rev?

I never tried it, however, turning off or removing the smoke units should make no difference at all. One is hardware and the other is software. They're completely separate.

The higher the chuff rate, the closer together you will hear the chuffs. At 16, it would sound like a machine gun at low speed and a continuous sound at high speed.
