Did you charge the battery completely?

Battery not holding a charge?

every time someone has had a problem at our club with their ps1 or ps2 engines it was traced back to the battery.

Kinda figured that might be it. Will have to pull it this evening and check it out.

I believe that engine is one of the deselected chip engines. See this post.

Check the connections,  that happened to my 0-8-0 and I checked the rollers and they were dirty so try that.

Has the engine run there before?

There are known issues with PS1 and some transformers.

It's not always the battery    Tho it pays to keep 'em charged.

My top suspect would still be the battery, but if this is one that gets scrambled, not all of them can be fixed with the reset chip.  You have to actually get an updated firmware chip from MTH to get them running.  I believe the three clank error was the one that could be reset.  I had the one clank issue, the reset didn't help that one.

I put a BCR in my well loved PS1 Burlington Zephyr 5 years ago.  No problems whatsoever.  The train is going on 11 years old and has performed well over that time.

Don't forget to clean the roller, and the wheels, if the ground path is blocked due to dirty track, it will do some strange things.

Sam for PS-1 the smoke and some lights come from track power.  Motion and sound require the boards to be functioning correctly.

If you are only getting one clank, you have an issue.  Normal start up of the processor makes 2 clanks.

Make sure your harness is connected properly, and leave it on the track for about 15-30 minutes at 14 volts to do a quick charge on the battery.  Turn the smoke unit off.

When you power down sounds should continue for about 8 seconds.  If no sounds, you have an issue and as mentioned the engine could be in a deselect state.
