Several members of our train club have recently purchased Lionel Legacy SD 70's and we all seem to be having problems.  Mostly the soundboards.  Have any other folks other then Nate having the same issues.  Good looking cars, especially the B&O, but the quality control issues once again raises its ugly head.  When are the big two (MTH & Lionel) going to realize that they are going to kill the hobby.  The bean counters probably say that it is just a little problem and it's easier to fix the item then to have good quality assurance.  Any of you guys feel the same way or am I just blowing in the wind?

Nate, I purchased two Lionel CN SD70's and the first was excellent not one issue, however the second one had no sound. I checked boards, some were not completely plugged in, so I fixed that. The train than had sound for about 30 seconds and then it went out again. I returned it to my dealer he took it back. He changed volume pot, speaker, checked boards and had no luck with the sound issue. I also have the N&W version and it works fine.

I had the same issue with the recent GB 4141 sd70ace the NS sd70m and the CN sd70m. All the recent sd70's have had this issue. If you touch the volume pot while the engine is powered up sound will kick back in. As crazy as it sounds after removing the shell and fuel tank and putting it all back together the issue is gone.  It leads me to think it is some type of ground issue

Marty,

My LHS was never notified of this issue and there seems to be quite a few returns on this item. Yes it was a simple fix,  but they where not aware that it was such a big issue.

Sonmetimes folks have to be held accountable for quality control issues. I'm sort of new to the game, but aren't notices sent to suppliers if there is a major issuse such as this.  Probably Lionel, didn't think it was a big issue.
