I guess this is for GGG or Gunrunnerjohn.  Have a MTH Budd Car set, 30-2144-1, and made sure the battery was current prior to starting up.

After applying power, conventional mode, the car started in forward and ran in that direction only.  Marker lights and headlight came on.  Could not stop the car or change direction.  Pressing the Whistle or Bell button did nothing.

After power down, the marker lights stayed on for about 5-8 seconds, heard the click, then extinguished - definitely PS1.

 

Took the shell off and found that the speaker connector as well as the volume pot connector were taped in electrical tape, not plugged in.

Further examination revealed no chip.  Thought about this, then looked and found the two eight pin connectors on the side of the ONE board exposed, nothing plugged into them.

AH - the top board is missing!

Can a replacement board be found, does not have to have the exact chip, can be close.
