PS2 5V and PS2 3V, for basic wiring location are close enough.
That said, here is the bigger problem- Firmware. On the PS2 boards, only MTH could flash firmware and some only when the board was manufactured. So if a board did not have specific lights- it might NEVER have that function or lights. You have no way of flashing the board and it probably is not able to be flashed even if someone could.
Rather than tearing up engines swapping parts- yeah, I read your previous post- what you should have done is gotten a proper PS3 upgrade stacker board (called PS32) where the upper board has the 5V style connectors to plug into your harness. Then you could flash the correct chain files (basically firmware) and correct sound file, and then you would have a properly working engine.
As with any topic, as soon as I post, then the great teardown of anything I said will begin.
Oh, another thing, If your Q2 is a Premier, then likely it had the mux and demux board system. This adds another layer of complexity over standard railking or direct wiring board to light output.

And last the kicker- while searching for the above link on google using ps2 mux wiring
Below is not a link it's a picture showing what comes up near the top of the list with that keyword search in google "ps2 mux wiring"
That has all the diagrams and is how I knew how to service MTH engines before I was sponsored by the local dealer.

Barry,
The first thing I did was try to obtain a ps3 upgrade kit. And I couldn't find any! Do you have a source? And this engine has no other boards. So,I decided to sacrifise a railking engine from a starter set to keep a premier Q2 running! It seamed to be no brainer?? And thanks for the info on the firmware. That explains the marker lights not working. Id rather run it minus a feature than not at all.
And the donor engine will continue to operate on my grandsons loop with a Williams foward/backward board!
I don't understand the comment about the marker lights not working, they're not a special feature. I recently replaced the 5V board in my Q2 with a 3V board, all I did was load the Q2 sound file and everything worked.
The original poster did not say whether he replaced the original Railking sound file with the correct file for the Q-2. This could explain the lack of marker lights.
Also, did the 5V Q-2 use the AE-0000004 board? If the transplanted board was an AE-0000001, could this have made a difference?
A key would be to understand exactly what board he used from that RailKing locomotive.
Well guys ,there seams to be a difference in opinions? Can the board be flashed or not?
John, I was confused as well about the marker lights not working? But I can say that the donor engine did not have marker lights.
Was the donor board also a 5V board? Did you load the Q2 sound file? When I tried a non-FLASH 5V board in the Q2, what I got was no articulated sounds, but everything else worked fine. The 3V board restored full function, so I went that way.
Yes,the donor was a 5volt board. And I have not tried to load the sound file.
Well, the sound file will probably fix the markers, but as I observed, you won't have articulated chuffs with the non-FLASH board.
